Project Profiles CHICAGO CHEM CONSULTANTS CORPORATION US AIR FORCE BASE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AUDITS As part of week long 25 person team for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance and Management Practice Assessment (ESOHCAMP) at numerous Air Force Education and Training Command (AETC) Installations. Participated and led Occupational Health Assessment covering 12 OH protocol areas including: Chemical Hazards, Confined Space Entry, Ergonomics, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Ionizing Radiation, Non-Ionizing Radiation, OH Management, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection and Thermal Stress. Identify weaknesses, recommend program changes provide field assistance in real-time. Coordinate with Environment and Safety protocols to enhance ESOH compliance and protect Air Force Personnel. FORENSIC ENGINEERING - INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS Investigated major accidents, one involving a chemical burn fatality and a second resulting in a serious burn injury with disfigurement from a reactor explosion. Root cause of the accidents were determined, and corrective actions developed jointly with production facilities. CCC assisted both facilities in upgrading safety and operating procedures. ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX SITING - SAFETY HAZOP EVALUATION Building permits for a $100 million riverside entertainment complex were denied due to adjacent bulk chemical storage facility with a history of significant accidents. CCC examined and quantified risk through air emission modeling, explosion and immediate danger to life and health (IDLH) exposure modeling. Reviewed and evaluated chemical storage operations and compliance history. CCC engineers put a dollar value to the risk and recommended improved chemical storage safety practices, protective measures for the entertainment complex, and fair value purchase of land. Presentation to State regulatory commission allowed timely opening of entertainment complex with mutually successful outcome for all parties. OSHA LOCKOUT/TAGOUT COMPLIANCE MANUAL FOR CHEMICAL REFINERY Developed a complete OSHA Lockout/Tagout compliance manual for a major Chicago chemical company. This work included an extensive evaluation of chemical processes, interviews with plant maintenance, safety and environmental management. The work resulted in a site-specific compliance manual set up for the clients needs in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.147. SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT, PROCESS, AND FDA PRODUCT REVIEW Completed review of new product involving toxic and pharmaceutical ingredient for toller with experience limited to non-toxic food materials. Product is considered an acutely hazardous waste if disposed. In order to meet early test marketing requirements, developed quick to implement environmental compliance plan and safety plan for controlling toxic dust exposure with respirators and low cost engineering controls. For the long term, obtained Food and Drug Administration approval for export only product and quantified cost for materials handling system with dust controls that would eliminate the use of respirators. CCC's design's total installed cost was more than 40% less than a previous consultant estimate for a system that still required the use of respirators. |
